Acrylic resin is one of the most important raw materials in UV varnish formulations, crucially determining the coating's curing behavior, film properties, and long-term performance. With the growing demand for high-performance, environmentally friendly coatings, Acrylic resin has become an indispensable material in UV-curable varnishes due to its unique balance of reactivity, hardness, gloss, and durability.
In UV varnish systems, UV acrylic resins are typically modified with reactive acrylate groups, which rapidly photopolymerize upon exposure to UV light. This ensures instant curing at room temperature, improving production efficiency and saving energy compared to traditional heat-curing systems.UV curable acrylic resins also enhance the varnish's mechanical strength, adhesion, and distinctness of image (DOI), ensuring a smooth, glossy surface. Their tunable molecular design enables formulators to fine-tune their flexibility, hardness, and chemical resistance to suit application requirements.
Product Description
SA-161 is a thermoplastic solid acrylic resin composed of MMA and n-BMA polymers that offers several advantages for use in UV Varnish. UV Varnish acrylic resin SA-161's excellent dispersibility ensures uniform distribution of pigments and additives, contributing to a smooth, high-gloss finish with high clarity. Its low acid value enhances formulation stability and compatibility, while its flexibility and strong adhesion improve intercoat adhesion and prevent cracking or delamination, especially on substrates subject to movement or stress. UV acrylic resin SA-161's medium molecular weight (120,000) and low Tg (31°C) balance film toughness and flexibility, making the clearcoat less brittle than harder resins. Overall, UV curable acrylic resin SA-161 enhances substrate adhesion, flexibility, and leveling in UV clearcoat systems, while also acting as a performance modifier to improve durability and appearance.
